A graceful annual for the border, producing delicate flowers and foliage that are wonderful for cut flower arrangements. They can also be grown as flowering pot plants, grown in drifts, or planted so as to cascade down steep banks or dry walls.
SITE: full sun
FLOWERING MONTHS: June to August
SOW INDOORS: February to March
SOW DIRECT/PLANT OUTDOORS: April to June
TIPS: Need very sharp drainage or they can be short lived. Can be grown in container pots.
Direct sow Gypsophila elegans seed outdoors where they are to grow on any well-drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sprinkle seeds thinly over the soil surface and lightly rake the soil to ensure the seed is just covered. Alternatively, sow seeds thinly at a depth of 3mm in drills spaced 30cm apart. Sow between February to March indoors to produce earlier flowers.
