Imperialis Aurora's magnificent flowers are commonly known as crown imperial, their golden circles of flowers reminiscent of an emperors crown. Native to the hot arid climates of Afghanistan and the Himalayas they prefer full sun and sandy, well-drained soil where it will naturalise and produce an increasing display year after year.

Plant 20cm (8in) deep from September to November in fertile, well-drained soil, taking care not to damage the fragile bulbs. To minimise unnecessary disturbance use a marker indicating where the bulbs have been planted
