Rich purple-blue flowers, which are very attractive to bees, appear from May to August, contrasting beautifully with the fleshy, blue-green foliage. This is a striking and versatile evergreen plant. In milder areas it will carry on from year to year, but should generally be treated as an annual. It is ideal for adding interest to the herbaceous border and is also a great additional to flower arrangements. However, before using in fresh arrangements, dip the ends of the stems in boiling water for thirty seconds.
HEIGHT: 60cm
SITE: Full Sun, sheltered
FLOWERING MONTHS: May to August
SOW UNDER COVER/PLANT INDOORS: February to April
CARE TIPS: Can be grown in container pots. Will self-sow. Hardy annuals can withstand a touch of frost and can be sown/planted straight into the ground in the autumn and will keep through the winter without protection. In colder areas you may wish to cover seedlings or keep in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse.
GARDEN CARE
Under glass, sow shallowly in freely draining compost in late winter or early Spring. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, carefully move them into pots and harden off before planting out in a sunny spot after the frosts. Direct sowing can be undertaken in late spring in a well prepared bed.
