Approximately 100 Seeds
A magnificent plant both in the garden and when used as a cut flower. In addition it can be used as a natural sweetener (try adding it to rhubarb and using less sugar)
This perennial grows to statuesque proportions and has rounded umbels of light yellow flowers in early summer which turn to beautiful seed pods which look amazing dried.
HEIGHT: 200cm
SITE: full sun, part shade
FLOWERING MONTHS: June to September the year after sowing
SOW DIRECT/PLANT OUTDOORS: August to September or May to June
CARE TIPS: Try adding this to the back of a border. Mulch deeply in dry conditions and try to avoid allowing it to dry out. To prevent it from self-seeding, deadhead after flowering, or leave to self-sow if you want more. It may need staking.
Garden Care
Fill trays with good quality compost and lightly cover the seeds. Water and place in a cold frame or greenhouse. Pot on when they have put on their first true leaves and then harden off before planting out after the frosts have passed. Alternatively sow direct in late spring or early summer and thin out to 20-30cm as they grow. Seeds sown in Autumn and overwintered in a cold frame will produce bigger plants which will flower earlier in the year than those sown in Spring.
