Purple Sensation is one of the most popular alliums and also offers great value for money. They have a striking silhouette which makes them particularly well suited to gravel or cottage garden planting schemes, but they equally look great in pots or mixed borders. Their densely packed umbels of deep violet, star-shaped flowers appear in early summer and team up perfectly with herbaceous geraniums or ornamental grasses, which will help mask their leaves as they die off.
HEIGHT: 80cm
SITE: full sun
FLOWERING MONTHS: June
BULB SIZE: 9/10
CARE TIPS: These are very perennial so plant them somewhere permanent. Removing the tatty foliage doesn't appear to affect the bulbs. Be sure to add grit if you have heavy soil.
Garden Care
Plant bulbs 15cm deep and 15cm apart to enjoy the full effect of the flowers. Avoid excessive moisture from late summer when they become dormant. Over-large clumps can be lifted and divided in autumn or spring.
