If you’re looking for something to fill the colour gap between Spring and Summer, the beautiful white Allium 'Nigrum' is perfect! Also known as ‘black garlic’, Nigrum has rounded flowerheads sat on tall, strong stems which bring structure and height to the garden just as other spring flowers are starting to fade. The flower clusters are densely packed with white blooms, each dotted with a small green centre.
Nigrum naturalises freely, each year returning with bigger and better displays. It also makes a great cut flower in both its beauty and vase life.
HEIGHT: 75cm
SITE: full sun
FLOWERING MONTHS: June
BULB SIZE: 9/10
CARE TIPS: These are very perennial so plant them somewhere permanent. Removing the tatty foliage doesn't appear to affect the bulbs. Be sure to add grit if you have heavy soil.
Garden Care
Plant bulbs 15cm deep and 15cm apart to enjoy the full effect of the flowers. Avoid excessive moisture from late summer when they become dormant. Over-large clumps can be lifted and divided in autumn or spring.
